Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Daniel Mellitz moved to California to study film at California State University Long Beach. While there he wrote, produced, and directed nine short films, two of which, La Femme Pickle and The Lost Mariner, went on to win numerous awards at film festivals. After film school, he stayed in Long Beach and worked professionally in the film industry as a visual effects artist.
