Bennett Rathnayake hails from an up-country rural family of Sri Lanka. He has directed 7 television series, some of which he wrote. He entered into the feature film field in 2001, making "Aswasuma" (The Compensation), which won 7 national awards and 6 international awards. Sulanga (The Wind) is his second film and has appeared at festivals in Montreal (MIFF), India (IFFI), and Cairo (CIFF). Bennett Rathnayake
